Through Twilight Talks

In twilight hours
Or middle night
Or sometimes break of dawn
Ive woken you
To say goodnight
And tell you how its gone

Weve talked for hours of nothing
Weve babbled recondite
Weve fostered family friendships
From conversations in the night

But time goes by
And children grow
And lifetimes roll along
And intervals
Between Hello
Are perfunctorily prolonged

And amid the many missions
That occupy my mind
I find my feelings further
From the bonds Ive left behind

In loneliness
And longing for
The love we shared back then
Ive woken you
Just as before
To reunion with a friend

Weve talked for hours of nothing
Despite the years to tell
Ive carried on from dusk to dawn
Youve always listened well

And time goes by
And people grow
And lifetimes roll along
But bonds we bound
So long ago
Stay steady, still, and strong

And amid the many missions
That occupy your mind
Im humbled, awed, and honored
How you always find the time
