Through Twilight Talks

In twilight hours
Or middle night
Or sometimes break of dawn
Iíve woken you
To say goodnight
And tell you how itís gone

Weíve talked for hours of nothing
Weíve babbled recondite
Weíve fostered family friendships
From conversations in the night

But time goes by
And children grow
And lifetimes roll along
And intervals
Between ďHelloĒ
Are perfunctorily prolonged

And amid the many missions
That occupy my mind
I find my feelings further
From the bonds Iíve left behind

In loneliness
And longing for
The love we shared back then
Iíve woken you
Just as before
To reunion with a friend

Weíve talked for hours of nothing
Despite the years to tell
Iíve carried on from dusk to dawn
Youíve always listened well

And time goes by
And people grow
And lifetimes roll along
But bonds we bound
So long ago
Stay steady, still, and strong

And amid the many missions
That occupy your mind
Iím humbled, awed, and honored
How you always find the time
